Crude Oil Procurement: Technical Specifications

Crude oil is classified by density (API gravity) and sulfur content, which determine its refining economics and which refineries can process it.

D2 vs. EN590: What's the Difference?

"D2" is a general designation for Gas Oil / Diesel used in less standardized market contexts. EN590 is the stricter European specification standard. Most reputable industrial buyers and their refineries require EN590 certification with independent inspection.

Red flag: Any supplier offering "D2 Diesel" without providing EN590 certification and independent SGS or Bureau Veritas testing reports should be approached with significant caution.

Jet Fuel Procurement: Jet A-1 and JP54

Aviation fuel procurement operates under the strictest quality and chain-of-custody requirements of any energy commodity. A contaminated fuel load entering an aircraft fuel system is a catastrophic safety event.

JP54 vs Jet A-1

JP54 is a military-specification fuel primarily used by US military aviation. Some civilian operators in certain markets reference JP54, but for international commercial aviation, Jet A-1 under DEF STAN 91-091 is the standard.

Critical note: The market for "JP54" is heavily populated by fraudulent offers. Legitimate JP54 procurement occurs through direct defense contracting frameworks, not through unsolicited broker offers.

Supplier Qualification for Energy Commodities
